SERVICE HOUR REQUIREMENTS
SERVICE HOURS: Studio artists are responsible for an annual Service
Hour commitment to help operate Center programs. The agreement on
behalf of the artist to provide service hours allows us to lower our
operating and maintenance costs, which in turn enables SAC to offer
affordable studio rental rates. Artists commit to between 40 and 70
annual service hours, as follows:
10 hours Committee Work, serving on one of the following:
Main Gallery: Works closely with the Program Director and artists
exhibiting in the gallery to install artwork and coordinate
exhibition details.
East Wing Gallery: Works with Program Director and artists
exhibiting in the gallery to install artwork and coordinate
exhibition details. Traditionally this has been a more independent
gallery because the exhibiting artists must install and remove their
own artwork.
Facilities/Maintenance: This crucial committee is responsible for
basic maintenance of facilities, including replacing lightbulbs,
fixing broken windows, cleaning cobwebs off the building, removing
weeks, and touching up paint.
Office: Publishes Studio Artist Memo, assists with exhibition
paperwork, and other clerical and computer work.
Reception/Events: Members coordinate the food and drinks for the
receptions at the Art Center. They also coordinate serving the food,
clean up and recycling.
Fundraising: This committee works closely with the Sanchez Art
Center Board of Directors to raise monies for the art center,
primarily through individual donor projects.
The following individual positions also qualify as committee work:
Board Liaison: This person(s) must be a studio holder at the Sanchez
Art Center. He or she represents the studio artists at the Sanchez
Art Center, Board of Director meetings. This person is responsible
for passing communications between the Board of Directors and the
studio artists. He or she communicates questions and concerns to the
Board members. Also, communicates policies to the studio artists
from the Board of Directors.
Studio Service Liaison: This person orients studio holders to the
service hour commitment program, greeting new studio holders and
contacting studio holders with deficient hourly tallies.
Keying Scheduler: This person is in charge of scheduling studio
holders to “key” the gallery. They also keep track of “key” dates
for service commitment.
Arts Education: This person schedules the Arts Education Room #22.
They show the room to prospective renters, handle contracts and
oversee the condition of that room.
Studio Screening Representative: One studio artist always sits on
the Screening Committee for new rentals and renewals. This is
non-voting position.
10 hours Keying – this involves opening and closing the galleries
for whoever is signed up to “sit” during gallery open hours. One
“Keying” = two hours, and includes opening and closing the gallery.
Therefore, the commitment is to “Key” 5 times during the year.
20 to 30 Regular Annual Service Hours based on studio size and
occupancy:
|
Single Small - 30 hours |
Single Standard - 50 hours |
|
Double Standard - 30 hours |
Triple Standard - 20 hours |
“Regular” hours are frequently
accrued in the form of extra committee work, as the committees cover
many of the necessary functions to keep SAC running smoothly. You
can earn “Regular” hours by gallery sitting, helping staff with
projects, or taking care of a special need you’ve spotted.
Initiative is encouraged, though we request that you talk to the
Executive Director or Program Director before you design your own
project.
The following position fulfills ALL annual hourly requirements:
Gallery Sitting Coordinator: Ensures there are adequate Gallery
Sitters from Artist Guild of Pacifica volunteers to cover open
gallery hours. Sign-ups are most easily obtained when AGP members
are dropping off or picking up art works exhibited at SAC.
Hours are computed on quarterly basis over fiscal year period of
10/1-9/30.
Regular hours may be “bought” for $25 per hour.
Overages on required Key and Committee hours may be applied to
regular hours.
Failure to fulfill required hours may be grounds for termination of
Lease. |
