SANCHEZ ART CENTER
SERVICE HOURS
GENERAL INFORMATION
| Studio artists
are responsible for an annual Service Hour commitment
(96 hours per standard size studio; more or less for a
larger or smaller space) to help operate Center programs.
The agreement on behalf of the artist to provide service
hours allows us to lower our operating and maintenance
costs, which in turn enables SAC to offer affordable studio
rental rates. |
| |
|
The following are examples of the activities that
qualify for service hours: |
| Keying
- Opening and closing the galleries for whoever is signed
up to "sit" during gallery open hours. One "Keying"
= two service hours, and includes opening and closing
the gallery. Artists may "key" a maximum of 4 times
per year.
Special Events:
This group works with the Executive Director to produce
and staff income-generating special events, such as
Arts on Fire, the 50-50 Show, and the Pacifica Fog Fest.
Exhibitions: There
are East and Main Gallery Committees, as well as a West
Gallery Coordinator, who take care of a variety of tasks
required by our exhibition program such as: acceptance
of artwork, hanging a show, patching and paint touch-up
at end of show.
Facilities/Maintenance:
This crucial committee is responsible for basic maintenance
of facilities, including replacing light bulbs, fixing
broken windows, cleaning cobwebs off the building, removing
weeds, and touching up paint.
Receptions: Members
coordinate the purchase of food and drinks for the receptions
at the Art Center. They also coordinate serving the
food, cleanup, and recycling.

Individual Positions |
| Board
Liaison: This person(s) must be a studio holder
at the Sanchez Art Center. He or she represents the
studio artists at the Sanchez Art Center Board of Director
meetings. This person is responsible for passing communications
between the Board of Directors and the studio artists.
He or she communicates questions and concerns to the
Board members, and communicates policies to the studio
artists from the Board of Directors.
West Wing Coordinator:
Works with Program Director and Art Guild of Pacifica
representative(s) to install artwork and coordinate
exhibition details. Traditionally this gallery is home
to the Art Guild of Pacifica exhibits, and they install
and remove their own artwork. A key duty of the West
Wing Liaison is to coordinate gallery sitting sign-ups
with AGP artists dropping off or picking up their work
during show transitions.
|
|
Miscellaneous Opportunities |
| Gallery sitting, helping staff with projects, or taking care of a special need you've spotted. Initiative is encouraged, though we request that you talk to the Executive Director or Program Director before you design your own project. Qualified SAC artists may teach in our Arts Ed program and apply their teaching hours to their service hour commitment. Also, one studio artist always sits on the Studio Selection Committee for new rentals and renewals; this is non-voting position.
