in the East Gallery is Random Encounters, an exhibition
of work from the Collage Underground. These nine artists came together
randomly via a class on deconstructing collage taught by Peter Foley.
The artists, all women, bonded over a shared vision of honoring
abandoned and discarded materials of humble origin, weathered by
time or circumstance, and exploring the way these materials interact
and intersect with one another. Their appreciation of collage as
a medium calls them to see meaning and mystery in the shape, form,
texture, and patina of these materials, and their work creates narratives
that elevate the raw materials from the ordinary to extraordinary
works of art.
Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd in Pacifica, about
a mile east of Highway 1. Following opening night, the galleries are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 1–5 pm, and by
